Known Issues & ToDo
Known Issues
  • 7-Zip's @listfile command line option never allows non-ASCII characters in filenames. There is nothing I can do about that. The maintainers of 7-Zip may change this in the future.
  • For some reason, Zip files created with ZipForge can not be opened with 7-Zip 4.15 beta.
WinZip has no problems with the files; I guess it has something to do with 7-Zip.
  • (ZipForge): While Updating existing backups the progress indicator sometimes displays values above 100%.
This is not an error, it could be a little bit confusing though. It is caused by ZipForge's internal 'progress' indicator.

Note: I am not responsible for 7-Zip. Visit: http://www.7-zip.org/.

ToDo

The list below is not complete. The following issues are mentioned on this site because it could save you some time. Informing me of an issue I already know about is not really necessary. Of course, I do appreciate your opinion.

  • Accept more commandline arguments. Ideas are welcome.
  • Add a commandline option to restore backups. (Low priority: You can use whatever (commandline) zip-compatible software you like to unzip.)

The NOT ToDo List...
  • Many people have asked me to make it possible to write backups directly to DVD/CD. Of course Abakt can never replace a cd/dvd burner. Some options:
    - You can use software like Ahead InCD to write directly to CD/DVD.
    - CDBurnerXP Pro accepts command line options and can be used together with Abakt in a .BAT script.
  • Add an option to set the Destination to an ftp address.
This can possibly be achieved using a command line ftp tool.
    For non-automated (s)ftp purposes I recommend FileZilla.)
  • Add a Job Scheduler.
You can use the Windows scheduler using Abakt's command line arguments, or any other scheduling tool.
  • Allow backups of the Windows registry.
Abakt is file-oriented software. Writing a registry-module would take me too much time.
Fortunately an excellent free registry backup and recovery utility exists: ERUNT. This utility accepts command line options and can be used together with Abakt in a .BAT script.

See How To ... for an example of calling Abakt in a .bat script.
